BCi Digital at IBC 2025: Collaboration, innovation and the next generation of talent

September 20, 2025

Each September, the global broadcast and media technology industry converges on Amsterdam for IBC, one of the world’s largest exhibitions for content, media, and technology professionals. For BCi Digital, IBC is more than an exhibition, it’s a unique opportunity to connect with customers, strengthen partnerships, and contribute to the future of addressable advertising and media innovation.

This year was no exception. Over the IBC weekend, the BCi Digital team was out in force across the RAI Amsterdam, meeting with long-standing partners, discovering emerging technologies, and supporting ongoing initiatives within the DVB Project.

Strengthening industry collaboration

A particular highlight was a joint meet-up hosted on the DVB booth by John Bartlett, BCi Digital’s Founder and CTO, who also serves as Chair of DVB’s Technical Module for Targeted Advertising (TM-TA), alongside Angelo Pettazzi, Chair of DVB’s Commercial Module for Targeted Advertising (CM-TA).

The session brought together technical and commercial representatives from across the DVB community, fostering open discussion about ongoing work in interoperability, verification and validation (V&V), and real-world deployments of addressable advertising standards.

The gathering reinforced the strong momentum within the DVB Project toward enabling harmonised, standards-based solutions that make addressable advertising scalable across multiple platforms and markets. The atmosphere on the booth reflected the best of IBC, informal collaboration, shared expertise, and collective ambition to keep broadcast and broadband technologies evolving together.

As John Bartlett noted,

“IBC provides an invaluable space for technical and commercial leaders to meet face-to-face, compare notes, and turn shared goals into actionable next steps. That energy is what keeps DVB innovation moving forward.”

Investing in the next generation

While IBC is always a place for business and technology, this year also marked an important milestone for BCi Digital’s career development programme. The company brought several junior team members to Amsterdam so they could experience the event first-hand, the demonstrations, the conversations, and the sheer scale of the global media technology industry.

For many, it was a first encounter with the international media ecosystem. James Troughton, an intern at BCi Digital, reflected:

“I was amazed by the scale of the event, not least because of the enormity of the venue. However, what truly shocked me was the vast number of companies in highly technical areas, and after further questioning of these companies, I realised how large broadcasting is on an international scale. Overall, I was blown away by the entire event and look forward to further opportunities to witness the newest developments in media broadcasting.”

Moments like these are central to BCi Digital’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of broadcast innovators. By giving younger team members direct exposure to the industry, the company helps translate curiosity into career momentum and keeps its own perspective fresh and forward-looking.

Looking ahead

From DVB collaboration to next-generation learning, IBC 2025 captured what BCi Digital stands for: innovation through partnership, commitment to excellence, and investment in people.

As the team heads into a new season of projects and deployments, the insights and connections made in Amsterdam will continue to inform BCi Digital’s mission, delivering robust, interoperable, and future-ready solutions for and media technology and addressable advertising.
